前陣子聽英國廣播，聽到這則醜聞 - Government writes off £1.4bn of PPE from Covid deal

上網查文瞭解更多訊息，卻看到一個職稱 - The shadow health secretary

儘管所有單字都認得，但拼湊出來就是不知道shadow在這邊是什麼意思。

上網爬文，也一無所獲。

只好請教英國朋友。

還好活字典立刻回復，幫我解惑:

"The shadow cabinet contains the members of the main opposition party

who are responsible for speaking on the areas that the corresponding

government ministers are in charge of. So the shadow health secretary

shadows the health secretary, the shadow foreign secretary shadows the

foreign secretary, etc."

不過我英國朋友補充道，針對首相，從沒有「影子首相」(準首相)這說法:

"However, we never refer to a shadow prime minister. That person is simply

known as leader of the opposition, or more fully,

'Leader of His Majesty's Loyal Opposition'."

目前英國的the shadow cabinet (影子內閣)是工黨，也許工黨有可能會再度勝出吧。

我不知道我的解讀對不對，但看起來，「shadow+職稱」似乎暗指那些有可能即將上任的在野黨準部長們。
