之前提到英國國王查爾斯三世加冕大典，裡面曾播放韓德爾所寫的Zadok the Priest，

在英國國王查爾斯三世加冕大典當日，透過直播，我也觀看加冕大典。

後來英國朋友跟我說了不少關於加冕大典相關細節。

首先是the Stone of Destiny，英國朋友如是說:

"For the coronation, the Stone of Destiny has been taken from Edinburgh

Castle and put into the chair in Westminster Abbey where the King will

sit. Kings of Scotland are traditionally crowned sitting on the stone. [...] 

I read the other day that it will be moved to a new museum in Perth in 2024.

Perth used to be the capital of Scotland, and the kings were crowned 

at Scone Abbey, which no longer exists. The stone is also called the

不知道有多少人會關注英國國王查爾斯三世加冕大典。

我英國朋友跟我提英國國王查爾斯三世加冕大典相關音樂，

我想就跟大家分享一下，當作科普，哈哈。

我是從我英國朋友才知道，原來之前查爾斯二世還有英國女王加冕，

所用的音樂是韓德爾的撒督祭司- Zadok the Priest。

韓德爾的撒督祭司- Zadok the Priest就是韓德爾獻給查爾斯二世的曲子。

韓德爾雖然出生在德國Halle，但他大概二十幾歲還是三十歲就去到英國，

後來也成為英國公民。

如果你知道看江老師邀請焦元溥講解哪些音樂家很有錢，

如果你看了我上一篇提到Bob's your uncle and Fanny's your aunt，

你就會知道原來Fanny這英文名字在英國是暗指女性的私處。

也因此，後來的人頂多就是說"Bob's your uncle"，但"Fanny's your aunt"反而式微。

我英國朋友跟我說: "The small bag we call a bum bag in the UK is referred to as a 'fanny pack' in the US,

which sounds indecent to British people."

我因此得知，在英國，霹靂包叫做bum bag，而在美國則是fanny pack。

但是在英國人耳裡，美國人說的fanny pack反而很下流。

再度讓我替Fanny這名字默哀。

之前曾看到一名曾留學英國，現在在英國雪菲爾定居、工作的台灣人在臉書提到"Bob's your uncle"，

他底下有人則提另一句比較少人知道的句子: "And Fanny's your aunt"。

於是我向英國朋友求證，"Bob's your uncle and Fanny's your aunt"的意思。

他說: "It means something can be done easily. It is sometimes used at the end of some

instruction for doing something: 'You download the data monitor app from Google Play,

add the widget to your home screen, and Bob's your uncle!"

簡單說就是There it is。

有趣的是，我英國朋友跟我說其實他沒聽過"And Fanny's your aunt"。

至於原因，他說:"I have never heard the expression, 'Fanny's your aunt'. In the UK,

之前聽到英國劍橋大學最年輕非裔教授Jason Arday送給恩師Sandro Sandri一支手錶，

讓我想起之前柯P曾在收到英國交通部長克拉瑪女爵士(Baroness Kramer)致贈的懷錶後，說要去變賣。

這件事曾一度引起軒然大波。

新聞報導指出，克拉瑪女爵士表示英國人認為時間很寶貴，所以送手錶，表示尊重。

但是沒人告訴她，在華人社會，手錶、時鐘不宜作為贈禮。

而柯P直接揚言表示這「破銅爛鐵」，他要變賣，

這件事情讓知名古典音樂樂評人焦元溥得知克拉瑪女爵士的大氣回應而落淚了。

新聞擷取焦元溥的原文表示:「有禮並不等於虛偽，率真並不就是白目。

感謝Baroness Kramer以這篇聲明，再次示範何謂一個『有教養的人』。」

之前聽Jason Arday接受theBBC採訪，Jason Arday提到第一次看到Sandro Sandri的時候，

彷彿門上的小鐘慢慢響起。

他用的英文就是the doorbell tolls。

那時候我就想，為何是tolls，而不是rings。

於是我上網查，查到有人如此解釋:

"Ringing can refer to any use of a bell, be it fast, slow, melodic,

monotonal etc. To "toll" a bell usually refers to a slow,

regular and often mournful single note on the bell."

於是我向英國朋友求證，他也是認同toll這動詞比較像是喪鐘。

話說我們台灣每次過清明佳節，就會跟西方人的復活節的節日接近。

我英國朋友就跟我分享他當日跟家人吃的復活節大餐。

他是這麼形容:

"It contained lamb, with Greek-style tzatziki sauce, which contains mint and yoghurt.

I think it's quite traditional to have lamb around Easter, though,

and it's traditional to have mint sauce with lamb,

although this was a different style of Greek dressing from British mint sauce.

It reminded me of bit of one of the dips that they tend to have at an Indian restaurant to go with pappadoms."

他其實重點是在講，復活節的時候，英國人都會吃羊肉。

偏偏本人超討厭羊騷味。

前幾天在the BBC聽到一則很有趣的故事 - 劍橋大學有史以來最年輕的非裔教授的訪談。

這位教授叫Jason Arday，3歲被診斷有自閉症、發展遲緩等症狀，且他還有聽障的問題。

儘管大家都覺得Jason Arday長大後根本沒有未來，

Jason Arday的母親始終對Jason Arday充滿信心。

Jason Arday在11歲開始講出人生第一句話、18歲才開始學閱讀、寫字，

21歲念大學、30歲念博班，37歲獲得劍橋大學教職。

他的故事怎麼會如此戲劇化呢? 我覺得Jason Arday有兩個很關鍵的人物出現在他的生命，

一個是他的母親，一個是Sandro Sandri教授。

在Jason Arday小時候，他母親就相信故鄉人說的話，手長的人會有一番作為。

前幾天聽the BBC，裡面提到南非經常停電，如果剛好開到十字路口，

適逢停電的話，交通號誌也沒電，就很危險。

這時候主持人說"That's very dicey."

那時候我就想，dicey跟dangerous有何不同?

於是上網查，dicey是指有風險的。

後來也向英國朋友求證，他說:

"I'm not sure there is any difference between 'dicey' and 'dangerous',

except that 'dicey' is an informal expression. I looked in the Oxford

English Dictionary and it says that it was originally 'air force slang'.

It means dangerous as in risky."

第一次得知原來英語母語人士不會發R音，著實令我訝異。

事情是這樣的，那次我首度觀賞"Only Fools and Horses"某齣劇。

"Only Fools and Horses"是很經典的英國影劇。

"Only Fools and Horses"講的是有兩個沒錢的兄弟Del跟Rodney，但總想要掙錢。

有次，哥哥Del想到自己女友Raquel唱歌其實挺不錯的，也不顧Raquel已懷孕3個月，

還是希望她上場演出。

他知道有名男歌手Tony Angelino很受歡迎，也想辦法邀請該男歌手跟他女友Raquel共同高歌一曲。

那集的片名是"Stage Freight"(怯場)，片中的歌曲是Roy Orbison唱的"Crying"。

(如果你不知道Roy Orbison是誰，沒關係，但你肯定聽過他其他成名曲，例如: "Oh, Pretty Woman"。)
